Just when I'd started getting used to an open floor plan, the crew started framing in the new island. The discussion with the property manager went better than expected ... at least Tom didn't come to blows with him. They will be spraying fire-retardant foam in the holes, unraveling the crossed electrical wires in the wall, and using fire-retardant drywall. And the building will theoretically be picking up some of the expense. We'll see if that ever actually happens.

So that's where the new island will be. |

Apparently this is the new venting system. Because the water will need to run downhill across the kitchen to the main pipes there needs to be venting of some kind? I'm unclear on the details. Originally we were going to go with something called a "studa-vent" but for whatever reason now we have this, which they say is better. |

Some electrical decisions were made. Pretty much all of the switches and outlets will go on the remaining column, because ... where else could they go? |
The plumber and electrician are supposed to arrive next. After that the drywall goes up, and we are promised that next week will be a whirlwind of progress.
